A Heartfelt Goodbye
You were one of my favorites, and I don’t have many. You were extremely talented, a musical genius whose works will continue to live and inspire people for many, many generations to come. I’m overwhelmed.
REST IN PEACE, AMY JADE WINEHOUSE.
“My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!”
-First Fig by Edna St. Vincent Millay
It’s as if Amy Winehouse had been saying those words during the last few years of her life. However destructive, she lived her life exactly the way she wanted to. Or did she?
Perhaps she was simply a prisoner of her demons, pushed farther and farther into the cell behind bars as tabloids and the public magnified her every mistake, allowing them to overshadow the positive aspects of her person.
If you could just see beyond her addiction to drugs and alcohol, if you could just for one second forget about the painful, low moments of her life, you will see the gentle, loving person that she was repeatedly described to be by her friends, musical team, and family.
A Swedish proverb says, “Love me when I least deserve it, because that’s when I really need it.” Maybe when she said this, the world failed to listen. And what crushes my heart is that perhaps at some point she herself forgot to listen too.
This is what her producer said in an interview I saw on CNN today: “She wanted to get better. She wanted to be in a better place, and hopefully she is now.”
I hope so too.
Thank you for the inspiration. You will never be forgotten.
